Daily Dose of Coffee's Best of 2008
I have to say, I'm happy to see 2008 off, aren't you? It was a good year, but not the best, and I'm excited to see what 2009 has to offer.
However, we've discovered some great new products this year, and this is my annual roundup of all things cool in 2008 here at Daily Dose of Coffee, in no particular order.
Best New Hair Treatment
MoroccanOil Masque. It's not cheap, but worth every penny!
Best Palette
Urban Decay's Deluxe Palette - all their deluxe shadows all in one place! Perfect!
Best New Skin Care
L'Oreal's Skin Genesis serum, but really the entire line. I have been using the serum and moisturizer ever since I wrote about it.
Best Fragrance
Bond No. 9 Lexington Avenue. This was everything I wanted it to be. I'm rarely disappointed in Bond.
Best Lash Product
Make Up For Ever's Lash Fibers. It's a staple that I discovered this year and I won't be without it again.
Best Body Scrub
Soap and Glory's Flake Away Spa Body Polish. What do you expect from the founder of Bliss?
Best TV Show
HBO's True Blood. Thankfully they have ordered a second season so I can follow the goodness of the southern vampires. Which isn't really necessary since I read all the books in like, a week.
Best Travel Destination
I didn't do as much traveling this year as I did last year. We will be changing that in 2009, so the winner for this is still New York City, for my visit in February, 2008.
Best Music
This one is so hard! So much good music this year! The best album I purchased was Adele's 19. My favorite song of the year is probably Shake It by Metro Station.

The Best of 2007
2007 ended up being a fabulous year! I began a love affair with New York City, became a master shopper, did a fair amount of other travel, and became a dedicated beauty product junkie. I also developed a shoe obsession to match my handbag obsession and continued to teach myself about style as much as possible.
So without further ado, here are some very, very random bests of 2007.
Tom Ford Black Orchid: I've spoken about my love for this scent before, but it's worth mentioning again. Dark, mysterious, and it seems as if I'm always finding something new in the notes each time I wear this fragrance. Definitely the most interesting mainstream fragrance I found this year.
Chanel Eye Shadow Quad in Bleu Celestes: Another favorite that I have documented elsewhere but worth mentioning again. I adore this whole collection, at least the products that I have. I caved on this, the Blue Satin polish, and the eyeliner in Blue Jean. Expensive, but well worth it. These were my first Chanel cosmetic purchases, and I'm sure I'll be back for more.
Sephora's The Smokey Eye Kit: My disclaimer on this one is that I haven't tried the mascara. But no matter - the brushes have helped me perfect the smokey eye that I rock just about every day. Well worth the price I paid.
The Campbell Apartment, Grand Central Station: The story behind this place is fascinating, but more importantly, this is just pure class. It was here that I enjoyed a $17 glass of wine and a jazz quartet. I was just happy to be there.
Silver Factory by Bond No. 9: Another NYC find. While checking out the Saks beauty counter, I discovered this gem. It's impossible for me to describe the scent, so I will leave that to others with a better nose than me. I will just say that it is a complex and fascinating fragrance that I don't own yet. But that will change. I adore the fact that it is inspired by Andy Warhol and his "Factory" of fabulous people.
Georgetown, Washington DC: An absolutely wonderful place to shop, eat, drink coffee, and people watch. And so close to home!
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo wine: I'm not sure I've ever drank a wine that I enjoyed as much as this one. Much love to my friends at Pasta e Pani who introduced me to this on my 35th birthday this year.
Xanadu on Broadway: Seriously. This is the funniest, campiest show I have ever seen. Fabulous. If you haven't seen it, you're missing out. Don't go with anyone too straight, though. They might not get it.
Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert: After seeing the author appear on Oprah, I knew I had to go buy the book. Easily the best book I have read all year, and that's saying quite a bit - I read a lot of books! I so admire her for taking the time (9 months total) to sort out her life and figure out what was important, especially after such a devastating time in her life. Think emotional trauma from a divorce and an inappropriate love affair. Of course, her desire to learn Italian because it is such a beautiful language certainly speaks to me. I did the same thing this year. Unfortunately, I didn't get the opportunity to live in Italy for three months, but you just never know!
It Won't Be Soon Before Long by Maroon 5: This is the CD that I couldn't stop listening to. Okay, it really wasn't a CD, it was all downloaded from iTunes. But whatever. Brilliant, just like Songs About Jane.
Really, I could go on and on. These are just a few things that I fell in love with this year. I'll skip the talk about my iPhone, and all the obvious bests of the year. We know all about those. Soon I'll post about what I hope to discover in 2008! Wish me luck!
