Reading List: That Extra Half an Inch

Amazon.com: That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything in Between (9780061544491): Victoria Beckham

I was going through my stack of books to find something to take on my flight tomorrow to New York, and I realized that I had never done a write up on one of my favorites: That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything in Between by Victoria Beckham.

I've never been a big Posh fan, and I'm not sure why. I think I was too old for the Spice Girl phenomenon, and while I've always admired her husband, she always looked rather plastic. But I do love a good fashion read, and she has a put-together style that I've always appreciated. No sloppy starlet look for her - I don't think she steps out without her heels and Birkin bag.

The book is filled with loads of advice, from the perfect fit of jeans to how to avoid looking frumpy when in need of maternity wear. My favorite piece of advice was, if you're showing off your legs, cover up your top, and vice versa - not because it's conservative, but because it's such a nice change from the porn culture we just see much too often (I love you, Simon Doonan).

The book was originally published in Great Britian, and you have to check the terminology twice - tank tops are "vests" over there, and vice versa. I thought it made it even more interesting and charming. But you'll get the hang of it.

All in all, an excellent addition to any style and fashion lover's library. Also a great read if you're looking to perk up your style, or just don't feel all that confident putting things together. Ms. Beckham has a true gift for styling, even if her denim line didn't do that great here in the States.
