In The Dressing Room: Gap's 1969 Premium Designer Jeans

Gap recently launched a huge campaign about their new premium denim line, 1969 jeans. The blogs were all atwitter about it (probably because some fashion bloggers got free pairs, but my mailbox was pretty empty, not that I'm bitter), and the email campaign launched at about the same time. I'm sure Gap/Old Navy/Banana Republic cardholders got quite a few reminders to come check them out.

At any rate, I found myself at the mall recently and decided to go in and see what all the fuss was about. And what I found out was...they are pretty good jeans. But then again, I always thought Gap had good jeans. Do they feel like my Sevens? No. Do they feel nice? Yes. Plus they make my butt look good, which is the best reason to buy them.

The jeans you see here are the ones I actually purchased. I plan to go back and get the dark wash curvy cut. I was torn between the two of them, and later realized that I should have just gotten both.

I tried on every single cut, so that I could give you the scoop on what to expect. Now, I totally needed therapy after I walked out of the dressing room, so be in awe of what I will put myself through for you guys. Just sayin'.

Perfect Boot cut: These were really flattering, but you will probably need to go up a size. They are mid rise, which is a newer and more flattering cut, in my opinion. The boot cut is almost a flare, so be sure that you're up for such a thing.

Real Straight cut: The cut I ended up purchasing, much to my surprise. I figured that I wouldn't like these at all, but they actually ended up looking the best out of all of them. They are low cut, so watch for muffin top and other unflattering things, but they aren't so low that you need to worry about your panties peeking out the top. Apparently, according to a Gap employee, the cut in the back is higher to prevent such travesties from happening. Can I get an amen?

Long and Lean cut: Another midrise cut that is really flattering. However, the hem is a pretty wide flare, and I can't really carry those off. This is another cut that you may need to go up a size on, for reasons that I can't figure out. I confirmed this with the Gap employee, who said that everyone is going up a size in these. So thank god it wasn't just me.

Curvy cut: This has always been my favorite Gap jeans cut, although it hasn't been around very long. I think I got my first pair two years ago. They are low rise and true to size with a boot cut. Those of us with a bit of padding on our butts will appreciate this cut. It's not made for those with no curves.

Always Skinny cut: I found these terrifying, although they didn't look that bad on. My body type just isn't made for skinny jeans, and they make me look out of balance. However, this is the first pair that I've tried on that were actually comfortable. If you're thin and tall, you will probably love these.

Sexy Boot cut: They didn't have these in my size, so I couldn't try them on. However, they look very similar to the Curvy cut. From looking at them, I think the hem might have more of a flair and the cut might be more slim, so probably more for those who don't have any extra around the butt.

Right now all the jeans are $20 off online and in stores. So if you need some new jeans and would like designer cut without the designer price, take a look and tell me what you think!

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Funds up at Gap Today

In stores and at Gap.com, the limited edition collection designed by the finalists of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. This year, it's inspired by the classic khaki.

Alexander Wang, the girls of Vena Cava, and Albertus Swanepoel contributed, and it's a mix of dresses, pants, shorts, and hats.

I think Swanepoel's hats are adorable, but the rest of it doesn't do a thing for me, although to be fair, I'm not a khakis kind of girl. The highwasted khakis are just awful, with pleats and tapered legs. The dress isn't so bad, but the exposed zipper hardware isn't my style.

Head on over and check it out, and tell us what you think!

Design Editions White Shirt Interpretation at Gap

I can't help it - I have a soft spot in my heart for Gap. I know most of their sweatshop produced separates are overrated and boring, yet I still go and faithfully go through all their offerings. I said a little thank you prayer to the fashion gods when Patrick Robinson took over as design VP, and continued to hope for the best. I haven't found a single thing I like since he took over.

So I eagerly awaited what I call the "white shirt" collection. The finalists of the 2007 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund each reinterpreted the white shirt exclusively for gap. This year we have 3.1 Phillip Lim, Michael Bastian, Band of Outsiders, Threeasfour, and Philip Crangi. And to our left, we have the white shirts. See any you like?

As for me, if I was in need of a white shirt (I'm not), I would probably go for the one on the far left, second row by Band of Outsiders.

So, are you inspired by this collection? Planning on getting one?

My Favorite Gap Dress

Regardless of my obsession over the blue and white Gap dress earlier this season, it is this dress that has turned out to be my absolute favorite. Every time I wear it, I get the most amazing compliments. I think part of it is that people aren't used to seeing bright jewel tones, but I am so glad they are back in style. I always looked good in them, and we haven't seen them since the late 80's. Paired with a fun patent blue platform sandal from Nine West, I look pretty hot, if I may say so myself.
At any rate, the best dress of the summer is now on sale over at Gap (along with everything else). They only have L, XL, and XXL left, but if you're lucky enough to be one of those sizes, you can score it for less than $50. Enjoy!

White Shirts at the Gap

Once again, the skinny girls are out of luck. This adorable top is only available at Gap online in sizes 18 and 20. So, if you haven't ordered one yet and you're not one of these sizes, too bad! Because, seriously, this is very, very cute. All of the shirts in the collection are worth owning, and kudos to Gap for stepping out of their typical box.

I Caved

Went to the mall tonight with some girlfriends and had a great time. I totally caved on the Gap dress that I had my eye on - good thing, too, since they only have two sizes left online. I also bought these shoes to match, although they are in a medium blue patent, which doesn't seem to be available anywhere on the internet, only my local Macys. Whatever. And speaking of buying things that are not online, I picked up a super cute Juicy Couture wristlet that looks like the photo here, except in green and pink. But most importantly, I got a great tote bag from Up Against the Wall that has Jesus on one side and Mary on the other. Except it's totally cool, and says such things as "shop for Jesus," and other fun stuff. I'll have to take a closer look at it and get the brand and see if I can find a picture. I was just too entranced by it and used it for shopping thereafter to take a super close look.

Speaking of Fascination

So I feel as though I really need this dress. I'm not sure why. I don't even like polka dots, although I'm not sure you can really consider this dress a polka dot dress, can you? The things that occupy my mind. But seriously, isn't this the cutest thing you've seen from Gap in a long time? I know that Gap is currently the black sheep of the fashion sales world, what with their huge sales slump and disappointing Red collection, but kudos to whomever designed this little ditty and made me want to run to Gap right now and see if it's in my size.

Skinny ladies, you're out of luck. It's currently only in sizes 16 and 18 online.
