Mix it Up

Just another summer outfit. I actually own the shoes, and I've been trying to figure out what to pair them with. I am really loving the brights this season, but what I don't like is the monocromatic dressing that is going on. Mix it up, people! Have fun with it! You know that we are going to be back to boring gray and black soon enough.

Red and White

So, I've been thinking about my current obsessions lately. Namely the Charles David poppy sandals and the neutral eye with a heavy black eyeliner. Maybe combined with false lashes? Definitely.
But I needed to see how versatile those sandals were before I dropped my hard earned cash on them. Surprisingly, I was able to put together several looks that I could manage without spending any more money, and tons more if I wanted to invest in a couple of cute red dresses. This set above is my favorite, with the shoes front and center. Do you ever build a look based on one thing like shoes? A favorite sweater? A necklace?

I Think Prom is Horrible, Tacky, and Gross.

And that pretty much sums up how I feel about the losing dress, too. But Christian said it so much better than me.

Have I mentioned how much I love Project Runway? No? Well, I adore it. And there is always one designer that I just seem to get emotionally involved with. Santino last season, and this season it's Christian. LOVE HIM.
But really, the dresses were kind of meh. I didn't see any that I would have wanted to wear, but then again, I'm not 17 and going to prom. I think Victorya's dress was lovely, but not a flattering cut for me. Love the color, though - it's my current favorite.
And Sweet P's dress had a fabulous cut, and the champagne color was beautiful, although I'm more of a fan of the brights.
And the losing dress was just such a disappointment, because I usually love all of Kevin's designs. He's done such a great job up until now, I just don't know what happened! This is just horrific!
Ugh. Just awful. I'm so sad that Kevin is gone. But an honorable mention for Chris - I love the design and cut of his gown, although the green is just...I'm not sure. Plus, he makes really bad jokes, which is just up my alley.
As always, Michael Kors was deliciously bitchy, and Nina was just bitchy. Love them. But would someone tell Michael that the spray tan needs to be turned down a bit?

My Favorite Gap Dress

Regardless of my obsession over the blue and white Gap dress earlier this season, it is this dress that has turned out to be my absolute favorite. Every time I wear it, I get the most amazing compliments. I think part of it is that people aren't used to seeing bright jewel tones, but I am so glad they are back in style. I always looked good in them, and we haven't seen them since the late 80's. Paired with a fun patent blue platform sandal from Nine West, I look pretty hot, if I may say so myself.
At any rate, the best dress of the summer is now on sale over at Gap (along with everything else). They only have L, XL, and XXL left, but if you're lucky enough to be one of those sizes, you can score it for less than $50. Enjoy!

Maxi Dresses: Do We Love Them?

I want to love maxi dresses. I do. But did you see my post about Kelly Clarkson? Shining example of a maxi dress. All the best intentions, blah, blah, blah. But they are so comfy! So forgiving! So lightweight! Can you tell I have one sitting in my closet that I haven't worn? Not this one here, although I think this one is super cute - and I'm not a J. Crew fan (way too preppy for me; I don't have a single preppy bone in my body). I like the black band at the top of the bodice and at the waist. It seems to cut the pattern a bit and make it more wearable. I don't know. I think I like it. I also think I could look like a graphic designer threw up on me if I wasn't careful.

Kelly Clarkson

Poor Kelly Clarkson. Every time she puts on a few pounds and ventures out, everyone points their fingers and laughs. I'm not sure about the dress. Especially if I knew the press was going to be snapping photos and everyone was going to be watching, but I wouldn't dismiss it entirely. Unfortunately, when you're on the red carpet, you probably need to be Spanx'ed to the gills and wearing something that absolutely accentuates every good quality you have. But overall, I think she looks pretty good. I just waffle on the dress.

I Caved

Went to the mall tonight with some girlfriends and had a great time. I totally caved on the Gap dress that I had my eye on - good thing, too, since they only have two sizes left online. I also bought these shoes to match, although they are in a medium blue patent, which doesn't seem to be available anywhere on the internet, only my local Macys. Whatever. And speaking of buying things that are not online, I picked up a super cute Juicy Couture wristlet that looks like the photo here, except in green and pink. But most importantly, I got a great tote bag from Up Against the Wall that has Jesus on one side and Mary on the other. Except it's totally cool, and says such things as "shop for Jesus," and other fun stuff. I'll have to take a closer look at it and get the brand and see if I can find a picture. I was just too entranced by it and used it for shopping thereafter to take a super close look.

Speaking of Fascination

So I feel as though I really need this dress. I'm not sure why. I don't even like polka dots, although I'm not sure you can really consider this dress a polka dot dress, can you? The things that occupy my mind. But seriously, isn't this the cutest thing you've seen from Gap in a long time? I know that Gap is currently the black sheep of the fashion sales world, what with their huge sales slump and disappointing Red collection, but kudos to whomever designed this little ditty and made me want to run to Gap right now and see if it's in my size.

Skinny ladies, you're out of luck. It's currently only in sizes 16 and 18 online.
