Loose pigment eyeshadow has long been a staple of makeup addicts everywhere. MAC is probably best known for their amazing pigments, although many people claim that working with them can be daunting.
Enter in Max Factor and their new line Vivid Impact Eye Shadow. This is a double ended loose powder eye shadow that delivers bold color with an easy application. The flexible applicator is key to the entire experience: it can be used to apply the loose powder all over the entire lid or you can use it to line the eyes and create a dramatic look that draws attention to the eyes. It is even easy to use under the eyes - the applicator is pointed as well as soft, so using it is a breeze.
What I liked best about this formula, aside from the applicator, was the pigment. It is rare for me to find a drugstore brand that actually has the level of pigment that I'm used to working with, and Max Factor Vivid Impact Eye Shadow certainly fits the bill. I have Emerald Coast and Two Cents, and all four colors are bright and vivid. They are also extremely easy to blend (which is why so many love loose pigmented shadow versus compressed shadows) using either the applicator or my standard eyeshadow brushes.
Max Factor Vivid Impact Eye Shadow comes in ten amazing combinations and can be found at most mass retailers for about $5.49. I think this would be a great introduction to working with loose pigment shadows without spending a fortune.
Loose Pigmented Eyeshadow Goes Mainstream
Experiments with Emerald Coast
I'm really having fun playing around with the new Max Factor Vivid Impact Eye Shadow Duos. This one is Emerald Coast, and it's a bright blue/green combo.
I started with MAC Paint Pot in Groundworks, and used the blue from the Eyeshadow Duo. In the inner corner of each eye I brushed the green in, blending it well with the blue. Then I took my blending brush and lightly went around the entire eye, going underneath to pull it all together. I decided I needed some sort of highlighter towards the brow bone, so I used my new MAC Colour Forms Richmetal Highlighter in Rose Boullion. I did a very thin black line around the entire line with Too Faced Lava Gloss Eye Liner
just because my day isn't complete without some sort of actual eyeliner. And because I was just feeling this whole blue/green combo, I did one coat of Make Up For Ever Lash Fibers
then added my under-used Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in a teal color that is no longer available, unfortunately. Then I finished off the eyebrows with my Urban Decay Brow Box
. Love that thing.
Too Faced Mini Reviews
A few words about some of my favorite Too Faced products. If you've never explored Too Faced, you are missing out! And you can always read more of my mini reviews over at Total Beauty!
Wrinkle Injection
This is a soft and creamy concealer that does an excellent job hiding those fine lines underneath your eyes. I'm sure it works well on any facial wrinkles in any area on your face. The light color also helps with dark undereye circles as well. I will definitely be keeping this product in my makeup bag.
Eye Shadow Duo
I'm a huge fan of Too Faced shadows, especially since I know I can wear them all day long without worrying about using a good primer on my eyelids. The colors are perfectly matched (Totally Toasted and I Know What Boys Like are my personal favorites) and nicely pigmented. They layer well, so it's easy to build a dramatic look with these or keep it nice and simple.
Mood Swing
I don't know if this gloss actually does change color according to my mood - I haven't truly paid enough attention to it to really give a reasonable opinion. But the shade of pink that it turns on my lips is super cute, and for a gloss, quite long lasting. It's not sticky or gooey, and goes on very easily. It's probably gimmicky, but I've been happy with it thus far.
Brownies
This is without a doubt my favorite brow product, and I've tried them all! Keep it super simple by applying the pencil to your brows then using the mascara-type brush on the other end to blend. That's it - fantastic looking brows in a flash.
