Sale Alert: Sephora

Heads up! Although it's too late for holiday shopping (unless you're old school and give gifts on Three Kings Day), Sephora is having quite a little sale. Take an additional 20% off sale items with the code EXTRA at checkout.

They have a large amount of Laura Geller items, which isn't surprising since I heard they were discontinuing them. I also see a ton of Ted Gibson hair products and what looks like almost the entire line of Sephora brand products.

Not that I need them, but I'll be picking up a few things. Go shop the sale!

Post Holiday Shopping: Sephora

Oh my, ya'll. Sephora is having a pretty large sale, and you might want to go check it out. I hardly ever find things on sale at Sephora, but there are some good ones this year.

Like this Too Faced World Domination Tour All Access Backstage Beauty set which is on sale for $32.

There is lots more, so hop on over and check it out.

For the Men Fridays: Matte for Men

Sephora has released a new line just for men called Matte for Men. There are five products in this line, and it's quite comprehensive. They include:

  • Complete Head Care Lotion: an all-in-one moisturizer for face, neck, forehead, scalp, and ears
  • Antioxidant Shave Gel: A shaving cream alternative created for head and face
  • Complete Cleansing Cloths: an all-in-one cleansing and toning solution
  • Antioxidant Daily Facial Cleanser: foaming cleanser designed to clean without drying
  • MAN Powder: a body powder that keeps skin dry and comfortable

Looks like some great stocking stuffers at a fairly reasonable price. Available exclusively at Sephora.

Update on Sephora Friends and Family from Musings of a Muse!

What would we do without the Muse? Yesterday I was crushed, thinking that there would be no Friends and Family discount from Sephora this year. But the Muse was on the case and got to the bottom of it and presents to you the code for your Friends and Family shopping this year.

Three cheers for the Muse!

No Sephora Friends and Family This Year? The Muse Says No

One of my favorite beauty bloggers has just dealt me a shattering blow. Turns out that we may not see the usual Friends and Family 20% discount at Sephora this year! I'm crushed. Check out Musings of a Muse for more information this shocking turn of events.

Time For Another Trip to Sephora

There are some great new products out at Sephora these days. The one I'm most excited about is Kat Von D Rock 'n Roll Eyeshadow Duos. It looks like they come in a nice array of colors and I'm dying to try them out. I'm already a big fan of her Kat Von D Autograph Eyeliner (although Rimmel Liquid Eye Liner will always have my #1 spot).

Also coming out is Stila Backstage Beauty Eye Shadow Palette - The Red Carpet Look. This looks like a fantastic combo for creating fall and winter's smoky eyes. This palette was actually designed for Marchesa's Fall 08 collection and includes both matte and shimmer shades, which makes me unreasonably happy. I love my shimmer, but I'm ready for some new looks.

Also in stores is the new Sephora by OPI line, which I've written about before. I can't wait to get in there and pick up a few shades - they look fantastic for fall.

Happy shopping!

Sephora Brand Beach Glow Melted Body Butter

Sephora Brand Beach Glow Melted Body Butter

This is a deliciously rich, jasmine scented, gold-flecked body lotion that gives you quite a beach glow after you put it on. Not content with just adding a bit of shimmer, this lotion gives you a bronze tint along with that required shimmer. I love using this after a good application of self-tanner and while wearing a sundress. And it's a very reasonably priced body lotion as well. You can grab this 5 oz. bottle for $16 at your local Sephora.

My Beauty-Filled Weekend

I had so much fun this weekend! Friday night was a night out to celebrate a friend's birthday, and girls nights are always such fun. But my beauty weekend was only beginning, because then I drove up to Washington DC to meet some of my gorgeous beauty bloggers for drinks at the Ritz-Carlton. I was fortunate enough to meet Lianne of The Makeup Girl, Julia of All About the Pretty, and the Jenn/Christine combo from Beauty in Real Life. If you aren't reading these blogs, you are missing out. Not only are these ladies beautiful, but they are incredibly smart. I'm pretty certain that they know just about all there is to know about all things beauty related, and if they don't know, they know someone who does. I felt like I was hanging out at the cool kids' table. Three martinis and a cheese plate later, we were heading over to the MAC Pro store inside the mall and I learned about Paint Pots. All in all, a fantastic time was had by all, and I can't wait to do it again!

The following day, I had a leisurely morning having coffee and lounging in bed. Then I decided to head over to the major Sephora store in the other mall. I am SO glad I did! Now, my faithful readers will know that I am devoted to my drugstore skin care - I have preached it for so long that I can't imagine talking about anything else. But the lovely Bliss associate (and I could just kick myself because I cannot remember her name, and she was so fabulous) talked me into getting a quick oxygen facial. Not only did I get an amazing facial, but I learned so much about the Bliss line and the benefits for people with difficult skin like mine.

I've put together a fancy little show for you, explaining each thing I got and why I love it so. I've only been using this regimen for two days and I am already noticing a big change in my complextion. It's more even, smoother, and I'm not having any problems with breakouts. While I think the prices are on the high side, I truly feel as if the price is worth it for such excellent quality.

Let's Talk About Cargo's Melt-Proof Makeup Collection

Summer in Virginia Beach isn't subtle. It runs in, slaps everyone in the room, settles in your favorite chair, then proceeds to overstay its welcome by about two months. It's not just hot - it's steamy. Humidity is way up there most days, with condensation on windows being a common occurrence. Or maybe that's just my A/C too high. The point is, it's sticky, hot, uncomfortable, and humidity is almost always above 90%.

When Cargo released it's Melt-Proof collection, I was thrilled. My Cargo Bronzer is a go-to, and I use it every single day. The whole idea of a set of makeup that wouldn't slide right off my oily face on a hot and humid day was extremely appealing - it rarely happens. The set includes Bronzer powder, Better-Than-Waterproof Mascara, and a 3-in-1 Eye-Cheek-Lip Palette.

The mascara is very waterproof, and probably excellent for poolside. However, we all know that I like a lot of volume, and this mascara didn't deliver it for me. That being said, I'm sure most people would find that this mascara does an excellent job - it has great coverage, and it's waterproofing abilities can't be denied. I adore the 3-in-1 Eye-Cheek-Lip Palette. The cheek is a cream blush which goes on smoothly with a finger. The eye part was also creamy, and lasted all day, including a walk to the beach, a BBQ, and a few too many mojitos. The lip was also long-lasting, but it was not a stain. Rather, I would consider it a long lasting creamy lipstick. All the colors blend well together and are easily applied. The colors are sheer and are neutral enough to work well with just about any skin tone.

Which brings us to the Bronzer. Ladies, this is some seriously dark powder! I was so used to my Cargo Bronzer in Light that I just didn't think as I reached for my bronzer brush and started applying it all over my face. Needless to say, I was a bit shocked at the end result of my wanton application: I looked like I had the most mismatched foundation in the history of makeup. After further experimentation, I was able to learn to use a light hand, and figured out how to use it sparingly enough that I didn't look like I was dying to be in Miami Beach. I would caution anyone with fair skin to be careful with this powder - it's dark, and goes on a bit heavy. But again, it does what it claims: it stays on for a long, long time through crazy conditions (see above).

Final word? Purchase only after a good testing.

Sephora at Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach

Oh, happy day. On Wednesday, Sephora opened their new store at Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach. It was nice and crowded, and I managed to score two handfuls of great Dr. Brandt stuff which I will be writing about soon! The SA's were great and everyone was buying up all the great stuff.

Here is what I ended up getting:

It was fun! So if you live in the area, get yourself on over there.

Would You Use Press On Eyeshadow?

Sephora is thinking you might. ColorOn is an all-mineral formulation created by makeup artist Irina Iosilevich. There are six sets, including the one you see here, which is called the Exotic Kit, and includes cammo, zebra stripes, and what looks to be cheetah print.

The other kits don't look quite as crazy. There is a smokey eye kit, and the rest look to be organized by color, such as grays, bronzes, and neutrals.

For $25, you a kit with five pairs of eyeshadow appliques, a brush, and a jar of setting powder.

I'm interested to hear what you think. Is this something you would try? Is the price reasonable for what you get?

want to win a $1000 Sephora gift card?

Cast your vote(s) to win one of every winning brand, a $1000 gift card to Sephora, and a trip for two to Sephora University. I can't decide which out of these three is the best of the deal, but lucky for the winner, they don't have to decide! They get all of them! Ten second place winners get a $100 gift card to spend on anything at Sephora, which is a super deal in and of itself. I'm off to vote!

What to Wear to Work: Target and Old Navy

I love to utilize Target and Old Navy for my basics, and I often find great work clothes in there as well. Target especially has many flattering dresses, and I have several of them in heavy rotation for my work wear. Here is a basic cobalt dress accessorized with Old Navy shoes (which I own and are amazingly versatile and always get compliments) and cardigan. A few makeup picks for good measure as well!

Is It Possible?

Look what I saw at the mall today! Is it possible that Sephora is finally coming to my remote outpost in the world? Will I finally have a place to go when I'm ducking out of work early and don't have anything else to do? How long do you think it will take for every employee to know me by name? And what will I have to complain about, now that Sephora is moving into town?

The New Kat Von D Collection at Sephora

I am so excited about the Kat Von D collection that she did for Sephora! Her makeup always looks incredible, and her coloring is similar to mine, so I have high hopes for the color combinations for us girls who aren't blond. Her line currently includes eye shadow palettes, liquid eye liner, lipstick, and a set of brushes. The eyeshadow palettes were apparently created with Kat's love of the smokey eye and each of them have seven shades to help you get that look. One palette, the Ludwig, looks like it might be a little more on the neutral/light side, while the Beethoven looks a bit darker. I haven't seen these in person yet, so it's hard to say by the website, but I am lemming this line pretty badly. I'm a huge fan of liquid liners, so I was very intrigued with her liner line. Looks like the Autograph Eyeliner sports some fun shades, both shimmery/metallic as well as matte.

I'll probably pass on the eye shadow brush set, as most of these I already have in various different forms. The case is lovely, though, and from what I can see on the website, they look to be of good quality. But I will write a more thorough review of them after I return from my Sephora jaunt in a week or two!

My Day of Makeup Shopping

Lovingly laid out for you here on the most gorgeous marble sink I have ever seen is the fruit of my shopping efforts. Here is what I am taking home:

  • MAC Heatherette Eye Trio 2
  • Sephora Bronzer Brush #44
  • MAC Shimmer Blush in Flirt and Tease
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Glide Pencil in Bourbon
  • Cargo Bronzer in Light
All that is missing here is the huge bottle of Chinatown by Bond No. 9 that I forgot to add. I'm going to be forbidden to enter any shopping establishment for quite some time.

Something New: Cargo Melt-Proof Collection

Surfing Sephora today (making my wish list for Saturday, of course), I stumbled across something super cool. Some of my Total Beauty friends recommended the Cargo bronzer on the boards recently, and seeing as how I've been on the hunt for a bronzer that is natural-looking without being too dark, I thought I'd give Cargo a try. But look at this neatness: Melt-Proof bronzer, three in one eye/cheek/lip palette, and mascara in one collection! Melt-Proof! Have we discussed the East Coast summers? No? Well, let me just tell you about humidity here. It's crushing.

Anyway, Cargo tells us that they use "a mixture of emollients and waxes to form a water-resistant film on the skin." My only question would be: what do I use to take it off? I still haven't found a decent eye makeup remover. Any suggestions? Because this little collection will be in my makeup bag come Saturday.

PS: this collection is available only at Sephora, and the image is from there too. :)

Weekend Sephora Haul

I was able to take a very quick trip up to DC yesterday and hit Tyson's Corner mall. Which is an absolute paradise compared to anything that we have around here. Just getting to Sephora is pretty exciting, since the closest one to me is in downtown Richmond.
At any rate, I did some shopping! Here are the things that you will certainly hear me talking about in the next week or so:
Sephora Brand Luminous Trio: These look like lovely shades to highlight with. I almost went for the bronze, but figured I might need to slowly work my way into the whole bronze thing. Is it already time to start the self bronzer routine?
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer: I love primers. I know most people can take them or leave them, but they are a key part of my makeup routine. I bought a small size green to see if it helps tone down the redness that I often get on my cheeks - and not in the right places, either.
NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Blade Runner: I don't know why this particular combo appealed to me. I don't often wear greens at all. Perhaps I was thinking I needed to branch out more. And NARS eyeshadows are always lovely to use.
Lumedia Facial Brightener by Bremenn Research Labs: I didn't actually buy this. It was my "free gift" for being a Beauty Insider. Or something. Anyway, here is what the site has to say about it:

This light emulsion is specifically formulated to reduce visible discoloration, spots, blotching, and uneven skin tone resulting from photoaging and environmental factors, while a unique full-spectrum luminizer helps restore the translucent clarity of a fresh, "baby-like" complexion.
Okay. I'll give it a whirl and see what it's all about, although I don't really have any discoloration that I know of. But I bet if I look close enough I can find some.

Review: Enchanted Eye Palette in Bronze

A nice selection of bronzes and greens. I picked this up because I was wanting a more neutral selection, and the colors seemed to go well together. Watch for glitter, however. Most of the colors do have a glitter element to them, and the rest have a shimmer. There are no mattes here at all. But the colors can all be mixed and matched, have a great staying power, and as always, Sephora gives you a very good product for a reasonable price.
$26 at Sephora.com.
